Our experienced guides will help you hold a kāhu hawk, teach you about all New Zealand's raptors and introduce you to some of the birds who we have rehabilitated and live with us because they are unable to go back to the wild. 60 Minute Sessions are available in Timaru ideally for a group under 10 people.
This is an educational and hands on encounter with two of New Zealand’s Raptors - The New Zealand Kahu or Harrier Hawk and the Little Owl. Learn about the lives of our native raptor birds, their ways of hunting, what they feed on, dangers to their safety and their cultural significance. This is a fantastic opportunity to get up close and personal with these magnificent birds under the guidance of our experienced handler. An excellent gift for those hard to buy for people, or a unique encounter for friends and family or corporate event.
The welfare of our birds is the primary concern at NZ Raptor Trust. To minimise stress, our birds will be resting during January to allow moulting. The Raptor experience will not be running 1-31 January.
The programme is run by an experienced handler and the audio visual programme tells stories of the birds, the work of the New Zealand Raptor Trust and cultural, environmental and environmental aspects of raptors. This programme is also available to service groups, community organisations and rest homes.
60 minute presentation and hands on encounter with New Zealand raptors for school students and educators exploring the place of raptors in the food chain, environmental impacts on them, cultural history and the work on the Trust in the rescue and rehabilation.
