The welfare of our birds is the primary concern at NZ Raptor Trust. To minimise stress, our birds will be resting during January to help their moulting. The Raptor Experience will not be running 1-31 January.

Welcome to the Raptor Experience

Nau mai haere mai

Get up close with New Zealand's raptors in a unique, hands-on experience. Learn about New Zealand's meat eating birds, how they hunt, dangers to their safety and, their cultural significance.

 

Meet some of the birds which we have rehabilitated and unable to go back to the wild.

 

Our experienced guides will help you hold a kāhu hawk and teach you about all New Zealand's raptors, the:


  • kāhu / hawk
  • kārearea / falcon
  • ruru / morepork
  • little owl
  • barn owl

 

Sessions are available in Timaru on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays by prearrangement
